Scrapbooking Projects — Make Beautiful Folders, Boxes,
& More

Scrapbooking
projects don’t need to be stuck on an album page. You can
use the same techniques and supplies to decorate folders,
boxes, cards, and more. Taking scrapbooking off the page
and onto more three-dimensional surfaces can have its
challenges, but the rewards far outweigh them!
A box or portfolio scrapbooking project has many sections
or surfaces to decorate, making preplanning essential.
First, I determine which section should be the focal or
most important area when the scrapbooking project is
finished and viewed. I always put more care and thought—and
my favorite embellishments—in those areas. Then I can use
the remaining papers and embellishments on the other
sections.
Stores are now carrying more cardstock boxes, portfolios,
pockets and folders. The portfolios can be made into unique
mini albums, with photos of a trip or a birthday party on
decorated surfaces. What a great scrapbooking project to
make for grandparents!
Other events such as a bridal shower or baby’s first
anything (haircut, steps, special adult-type food) could be
nicely featured in a portfolio. Decorated pockets can be
added to cards or scrapbook pages. If they’re made from
heavy cardstock, they can become the card itself.
Decorate Boxes To Hold Special Gifts &
Greetings
Boxes
used in scrapbooking projects can be made from tin,
cardboard, or cardstock. All can be decorated using your
papers, supplies, and techniques. When decorating tin, I
always wipe the metal surface with alcohol to remove any
oils. Paint and paper adhere better to the cleaned metal.
Decorate boxes to hold gift cards, special jewelry, a CD of
songs, a DVD of baby’s first steps. Or use cardstock to
make an accordion-fold card to fit the box.
Here are a few finished boxes, pockets, and portfolios.
I’ll keep adding to this collection of scrapbooking
projects—my hope is these will spark ideas you’ll use in
your own paper crafting.
